My first encounter with a calligraphy pen goes waaaay back to my scrapbooking days in the late 90's. Though I didn't fully understand how to use my Zig calligraphy pen, I quickly learned that you had to handle it a certain way to create consistent, tidy strokes.
Fast-forward to 2016. As I prepared to send out wedding invitations, I knew I wanted the exterior of my envelopes to be as lovely as the beautiful invitations my mother designed for us. We settled on shimmery silver envelopes and I searched the local craft store for a pen to do them justice. I rediscovered calligraphy markers, but this time, I did a little research to improve my handwriting. After our wedding, I kept up this practice for each round of Christmas cards and birth announcements sent.
It wasn't until 2021 that I stumbled upon pointed pen calligraphy. I was mesmerized by the way the tines of the nib could bend and separate, creating such broad strokes out of seemingly nowhere. I was hooked! Since then the momentum has only picked up with every calligraphy tool and book purchased.
In 2024 I launched The Flourished Fern Calligraphy, my home on the internet for my favorite projects and design services. I hope and expect this site will evolve and grow as my skills and love for this art do. That fall I also opened my Etsy shop, which continues to expand with a range of paper and digital products.
